Black cardamom, scientifically known as Amomum subulatum, is a spice belonging to the ginger family (Zingiberaceae). Unlike the more common green cardamom (Elettaria cardamomum), black cardamom has a smoky, robust flavor with a hint of camphor. Native to the eastern Himalayan region, black cardamom is widely used in various cuisines, particularly in the Indian subcontinent, China, and Southeast Asia.
