A 2009 study found that poppyseed oil contains alpha- and gamma-tocopherol. Tocopherols are antioxidants and naturally-occurring forms of vitamin E. Poppyseed oil contains antioxidants, including naturally occurring vitamin E, which may lower the risk of conditions like cancer.
The oil is sometimes used as a cooking oil; it is also used for moisturizing skin. Its primary use, however, is in the manufacture of paints, varnishes, and soaps. Poppyseed oil is a drying oil. In oil painting, the most popular oil for binding pigment, thinning paint, and varnishing finished paintings is linseed oil.
Poppy seed oil supports the skin barrier with its specific fatty acid spectrum as well as its high vitamin E content.
